For the US, there is no specific federal law that prohibits the citizens from online gambling activities. However, different state laws may be applicable to online gambling activities happening in that state. Surveys reveal that 80% of online pokers are Americans and among the total population of online gamblers, 55% of Americans take part in various gambling activities.

Therefore, it is obvious that so many people cannot simply ignore the law and participate in so called ‘illegal’ gambling activities. This means that there must be some kind of legal recognition which the casinos adhere to in order to attract so many online gamblers every year.

There are certain states which do outlaw online gambling, which include Louisiana, Michigan, Illinois, and Nevada. Many other states are also supposed to follow suit. However, some the states of California, Utah, South Dakota, and Massachusetts allow online gambling in certain forms and outlaw the other forms.
